It’s every parent’s dilemma - how to keep our children happily occupied in a safe and stimulating situation during the summer months. Take advantage of one of the best options available to bring the balance of relaxing time and mental challenge to your child’s life this summer by enrolling in the FRONTIER ROTARY READING AND MATH SUMMER SCHOOL.
Program
Our program is geared for students exiting kindergarten through grade five, offering both remedial and enrichment classes taught by certified teachers. Each year we choose a theme to “hook” students’ interest and encourage them to explore the core curriculum of Reading, Writing, and Math. This year’s theme is "Turn Back Time."
Reluctant and proficient readers will enjoy the intrigue and challenge of activities teachers have planned including math puzzles, literature studies, brain-teasers, and many other fun, brain-stimulating activities which explore geography, dinosaur and history themes. All students are invited to participate in a book exchange and free book selection program, as well as being eligible for perfect attendance prizes.
The Remedial Program features small class sizes, 1:1 tutoring, small group instruction, and a strong focus on specific reading and math objectives for each grade level. Each teacher will develop goals for each student and guide the class in reinforcing those all-important basic skills necessary to be successful in the next grade level. Although our program won't "cure" a child of struggles experienced during the school year, it does help keep students caught up and ensures continued focus on learning needed to tackle the next school year.
We do not have special education certified staff, nor the time to create IEP’s. Our program is geared for those students less than 18 months below grade level.
Students in this program may request financial aid. We work very hard to raise sufficient funds to help cover partial or full tuition for needy students in this program. We ask that each family pay at least $15 per student for the three-week program. Please return registration and scholarship request form by May 1, as funds are granted to qualifying students as requests are received.
The Enrichment Program is designed for students working at or above grade level in reading and math who will benefit from a rich learning environment replete with field trips, vocabulary development, science and social studies projects, experiences in the computer lab, speakers, and art projects. Practice with concepts for the upcoming school year will help your child get a "head start." These classes are not intended solely for New Horizons students and are multi-age. Two classes, a K-2 and a 3-5, are currently planned. If enrollment numbers permit, we wil add classes. We, unfortunately, cannot offer scholarships for this program, although some principals will assist with tax credit donations. If assistance is needed, please fill out the financial aid form and return with the registration form. We will contact your child's principal.
