English 1-2 Independent Study - #2111, #2112
This course is the basic ninth grade English course for student achieving on or near grade level in both reading and writing. It includes a survey of literature, exploring selections from the past, as well as from contemporary works. Students will read short stories, poetry, novels, and a Shakespearean drama. Students will write based on their reading, and effective expression will be encouraged through the writing of narrative, descriptive, and expository essays.
English 3-4 Independent Study - #2121, #2122
This course is a survey of selected American literature combined with related work in writing, language, and vocabulary. It features a balanced variety of fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry from major American authors. Effective paragraph and essay development are the major considerations in the writing program.
English 5-6 Independent Study - #2131, #2132
This course consists of an in-depth study of major British writers. Writings are related to literature. In this class, students' writing will reflect mature writing skills: quality, development, varied sentence structure, and freedom from mechanical/grammatical errors.
English 7 Independent Study - #2141
This course is a survey of literature. Students will do extensive reading and writing. Student writing will reflect mature writing skills: quality, development, varied sentence structure, and freedom from mechanical/grammatical errors.
English: Language and Composition Independent Study - #2140
Students must complete a senior paper, and instruction time will be given for students to write, as well as type, a process paper in this class. (Students must complete either the I-Search paper or the research paper to graduate from Prescott High School. PEAK offers the I-search format.)
