Dress Code
(As adopted by Student Council and Site Council)
The responsibility of determining student appearance starts with the student and parent/guardian. However, school authorities have an obligation to ensure that standards of decency, health, safety, and a positive learning environment are maintained. Acceptable clothing for school may be different than clothing worn in other environments. The final determination of appropriate school attire resides with the administration.
The following are allowed:
Shoes or sandals must be worn at all times.
All shorts and skirts must be no shorter than five inches above the knee. (Modesty and decency will be considered in determining appropriate length.)
Sleeveless shirts, blouses, and dresses are allowed as long as the strap of the attire is the width of the student ID card and undergarments are not exposed.
Shirts with low-cut necklines cannot be lower than the armpit. Armholes must not fall below 2 inches from the armpit.
Untucked shirts must cover the midriff when arms are raised above the head (no bare midriffs).
The following are not allowed:
Clothing with obscene words, slogans, double meanings, sexual content, acts of violence, drug or alcohol related, immodest, or indecent is not allowed.
Clothing, hand signs, or gestures proclaiming gang membership/affiliation, or which may be interpreted as such is not allowed.
Head coverings, including but not limited to hats, head bands, and bandanas, may not be worn in buildings, halls, gym, and classrooms at any time during the school day or school functions.
No sunglasses may be worn indoors.
Articles of clothing which cause damage, maintenance problems, or are of safety concern are not allowed.
No bare midriffs.
Students whose personal attire because of fit, design, color, inadequate coverage, or grooming distracts from the attention of other students to learn or teachers to teach shall be required to change their clothing or will be sent home by the administration.
