MYTH: AFJROTC is a recruiting arm of the government.
FACT: We teach science and world geography. By law, recruiters have no access to students like any other teacher. There is absolutely no military commitment.

MYTH: AFJROTC is vocation education.
FACT: We teacher Aerospace Science and Global Studies.

MYTH: AFJROTC is elective credit.
FACT: World Geo or PE credit is open to all freshmen.

MYTH: AFJROTC costs parents money.
FACT: Cadets are loaned uniforms and books free of charge.

MISSION: Building better citizens for America

REQUIRED: Cadets must be properly groomed, wear a uniform once a week and say sir/ma'am.

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Colonel Denny Peeples: Science teacher, Civil Engineer at Georgia Institute of Technology, MBA, FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Airline Transport Pilot, 24 years in USAF, F-15 pilot

Senior Master Sergeant Cal Martinez: World Geo teacher, born Bisbee, AZ. Campbell Univ., NC Bachelor's Degree, working on Master in Curriculum & Instruction, Gulf War veteran, 28 yrs. in USAF

SPORTS:
Precision Drill Competition: SMSgt Martinez is coach, competes across the Southwest, PHS 10-person team won 2nd place in first competition

Orienteering: Lt Col Peeples is coach, navigating while running through wilderness, competing against 20 other schools and over 300 cadets, PHS sent team to state championship 4 Mar 07.

CLUBS:
Model Rocketry Club: Builds and launches rockets, won "endurance" in first meet

Kitty Hawk Society: ASLA's Honor Society

JROTC Club: Allows curriculum-in-action trips across Southwest

Honor Guard: Patriotism and flag raising across the community

Color Guard: Posts the colors at parades, football games and community gatherings

Curriculum-in-action trips: REquired trips with all ASLA courses, paid for by the USAF, that enriches the Leadership and Aerospace Education of cadets. Trips in 2006/7 were to the Tuskegee Airman's conference in Scottsdale, Luke AFB, Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson, twice, the Pima Air Museum, a KC-135 flight at the Phoenix Air National Guard at Sky Harbor Int'l airport, and the USAF "Boneyard" in Tucson. Parents are always encouraged to travel with ASLA on the CIA trips.
